IIT Bombay Racing is India's premier Formula Student Electric team with a vision to "Revolutionize Electric Mobility in India focusing on sustainable technologies and innovations". We participate in the prestigious international competition Formula Student at Silverstone circuit, UK with our electric car, "Orca" currently, and have been winning the Formula Student Award by IMechE for being the best non-UK team for the past 3 years.
The team is already hard at work for the 2016-17 season and the current designs have been finalised with performance, reliability and aesthetics as the pillars of our design. Significant changes have been introduced and electrical systems have been overhauled to ensure a robust design this year, capable of completing all events with ease. A 3-tier team structure is present in the team to ensure good project management, knowledge transfer and an amazing design to make this year’s car a resounding success.
The Electrical division is divided into 4 sub-systems :
Powertrain: Manufacturing the battery and it's safety by designing a custom Battery Management System.
Low Voltage Safety: All the other safety tests of the vehicle is done using a Low Voltage Safety circuit which takes checks errors in vehicle safety responses.
Electronic Differential: To provide improved control to the vehicle, a closed loop electronic differential is implemented with the help of a simulated E-diff model.
Data Acquisition: A CAN based Data Acquisition System logs real time data that can be used to tweak and fine tune the vehicle performance
The Mechanical division is divided into 3 sub-systems:
Chassis, Aerodynamics and System Integration: Vital to ensure that all the parts come together and ensures coordination of mechanical and electrical sub-assemblies.
Vehicle Dynamics: The Vehicle dynamics subsystem includes the Suspension, steering, brakes and wheel hub-upright sub-assemblies.
Powertrain: The Powertrain subsystem is responsible for the design and manufacturing of the gearbox and the cooling system of the car, along with the implementation Electronic Differential.
The Organizational division consists of 3 sub-systems:
Marketing and Media: Taking care of all the Monetary associations with sponsors and Technical associations with various leading industries.
Operations and Events: Handling the year-long events organized by the team, spread across a timeline of 9 months.
Web and Creatives: Looking after the all the creatives required throughout the year apart from the actual design of the car.
